The concept of Gravity Dice was created in 2004 during an intense session of Dungeons and Dragons. James, our founder, realized that although the game board and pieces were well-made and visually exciting, the dice didn’t quite fulfill their role (pun intended). For one, the results didn’t seem truly random. James also wondered if weightier dice would feel more satisfying in the hand than the light plastic pieces we’re all used to. Being an engineering design student, he was quick to calculate the possibilities of a heavier, better-balanced dice and an idea was born.
The very next day, James decided to share his idea with a group of his friends and fellow students at Golden West College in Huntington Beach, CA. Together they decided three things: The dice had to be perfectly balanced, they would use only high-quality materials, and the end product had to have the smallest environmental impact possible. Once they started designing the prototype, they realized they might actually be on to something that would appeal to a larger audience and started talking about possibly sending it out into the gaming world.
After many hiccups, a few Kickstarters, and a relocation to Salt Lake City, the concept of Gravity Dice is now a reality. The dice are truly high-precision and roll with complete randomization. The weight of the dice alone is notable, as it adds its own sensory experience to whatever game you are playing. With Gravity Dice, we aimed to elevate the quality of gaming and reignite gamers’ imaginations. So far, the public response has been amazing and we hope to continue providing high-quality products to customers and fellow avid gamers.
